if you're happy and you know it...

Anyways...got back from a long day in Chicago, but, we did manage to do what we went down there for and picked up my friend, Melissa. She's lovely, and it's been great talking to her so far (she's got such a great accent...I'm jealous).

This is what I wore today! It's been a lot cooler than it was last week...I even wore jeans today! These are marvelous vintage shoes...but I do realize now that I've quite a nasty blister on the bottom of my foot...

This is what I actually wore to my friend's play. After a half hour of putting on clothes, taking off clothes, growling, and stomping around in frustration, I decided on this outfit. The dress was the starting point, but then I added a corset on the outside, and a slip showing underneath so it would make the dress longer. The finishing touch was a pair of killer vintage shoes and a clutch.

This look definitely drew a lot of stares, but I think that the whole underwear-as-outerwear worked out well...I'm glad I'm starting to take more risks and discover the full potential of every outfit!

In other news...I'm so excited because a friend from England is coming to visit! It's kind of a long story...her grandma and my grandma started being pen pals like in the 1930's. They still communicate and got us (their granddaughters) on to it when we were about six. So, we have been writing letters back and forth since then and only just started emailing, as well. Now she is visiting and we're meeting for the first time - I can't wait!

thrill me

Last night, my boyfriend and I went to Madison to see on of my oldest friends perform at the Bartlett Theatre. He portrayed Richard Loeb in Thrill Me, a musical retelling of the Leopold and Loeb murder in the 1920's. It was fantastic...if you want to see a behind the scenes video, click here!

Anyway...I was going to wear this outfit, but then I thought I'd be wayyyyy to hot in jeans. I'll post what I actually wore soon.

It is soooo hot outside! I don't ever remember it being this hot in June before! Almost 100 degrees (F) again (and humid)! Here is what I'm wearing...

This sweet skirt comes from my childhood dress-up box, and this large oversize peasant blouse is my mothers (shhhh).

I picked this vintage Mexican made purse out at a local rummage sale a few weeks ago.

nautical wanna-be

This is what I wore today! I don't know why I'm making that lame face...please excuse my severity.

It was another hot day today. And tomorrow, there's a extreme weather warning - it's supposed to be over 100 degrees (F)! Lame, since we're having a cook out all week at work and I'll have to be outside grilling hot dogs...

Oh well...I'll try to look on the bright side...and figure out the perfect outfit for a 100 degree day...hmmm...

Tonight we went out to Chili's for Father's Day dinner and this is what I wore...maybe a little dressy for Chili's, in retrospect, but fun to put together.

I started off wearing just the black shirt (notice the lace cuffs - ooo...I love it!) and a scarf at the neck, but then after minutes of walking around like that I decided to put the tank on over the blouse and lose the scarf.

Then I picked out the leopard print clutch to add a bit of rocker-ish charm.

By the way, hi Woodses, if you're browsing...

And also, my dad doesn't see this blog, but happy Father's Day dad! I love you!

This is what I wore to my bookstore job yesterday! It was hot as Hades, but a perfect day for a book sale!

I would wear this dress without the leggings, but I was afraid to yesterday as I needed to move around a lot...you know?

No, this is not what I wore today. This is what I am thinking about wearing to a wedding reception tomorrow night. What do you think?

The top was a bit risque before I fastened the dress to the bra with this beautiful brooch I bought at an antique store for $1...yay for brooches!

The hat is vintage and it's covered with pheasant feathers, very soft and silky!

Everything that I'm wearing was thrifted...the whole outfit cost less than $15!

ding dong

Tee hee - wearin' my boyfriend's old pants again...they're so comfy!

Yay for little vests, peace sign buttons, big bags, and candy apple red shoes!

This is what I wore to work today! Apparently this morning when I took pictures I was very excited for work - practically jumping up and down (as you can see in that photo)... I don't know why.

The white tank that I'm wearing really is cool because it has sequins all over it, but you can't see it in the picture...sad.

I am becoming addicted to big purses! They're so convinient - they hold everything! You could really live out of one for about three years if you had to. This one I just recently added to my collection, perfect for summery-ness when a cute little purse just won't work.

Tonight I'm going to a drive-in movie theater with my boyfriend! I'm so excited! We're seeing Up and something else that I can't remember at the moment. I hope everyone is having a splendiferous weekend!

devil in a red dress...

There's something about red dresses that's so sexy and come-hither while at the same time so Little Red Riding Hood, too!

This is what I wore today (day off! woot!) to hang out with my boyfriend. We went to down to Milwaukee to a warehouse that had retail fixtures (mannequins, clothes racks, displays, and the like) to browse prices, and then we went down to the lake (Lake Michigan) and played frisbee.

Anyhoo, I am wearing this dress over a sheer blouse, and I quite like the result. I might start to layer like this more often. Also, this dress has a perfect bottom to it so when you spin around, it poofs out (for lack of a better term this late at night) just amazingly.

At the end of the day, we watched Gone With The Wind - a most amazing movie. If you want to see some killer outfits, watch it! All outfits make me drool, especially Vivien Leigh's.

Yay! I kind of had a day off today...I was supposed to but then I ended up going in at 5 to work for someone so they could go and party (last day of school for seniors), so yeah. This was my outfit...

I think this blazer is really cool, but I couldn't help feeling that the print was kind of overwhelming once I had it on, especially with the padded shoulders and all...what do you think?

And this is a briefcase-purse-thing. It is big and square, but has a long strap. It is pretty, so I used it for a purse today.

Hugs and kisses to all!

Here is what I wore for a busy busy busy day at work (and also for an impromptu game of tennis with my bro on the way home)...

I really love the way half tucked in shirt look so casually cool and yet so stylish!

So today I went to look at some vacant buildings I may rent, but none of them looked right. I have another appointment tomorrow for a different one, and I think this one is going to be a lot better!

The first outfit is what I wore to my appointments, and the second is how I changed it for work!

I would like this Ralph Lauren shirt even if if was not Ralph Lauren. It is easy to go from dressy to casual and way comfortable (I am all about the comfort!).

I am really loving canvas shoes, like these hot purple ones, right now...

Also, I thought this purse looked kind of cool at work, what with the long strap and all, so I bought it. This morning I was looking inside at the tag and apparently it's made of eel silk. I've never heard of eel silk, but it's soft.

bright eyed and bushy tailed

I just saw the movie He's Just Not That Into You, and it was quality. Funny, sad, heartwarming, heartbreaking...you know. For anyone who hasn't seen it - watch it with someone you love. (And isn't Scarlett Johannson gorgeous!?!?)

Here is what I wore gallivanting...(I was feeling colorful)

These are new wedges I got yesterday when I rode my bike around to rummage around at rummage sales. They were only $5 and almost never worn (from Charlotte Russe!).

I also scored two beautiful hats from the 1940's - one for $5 and one only for $2 - such a steal!

I must say that I am loving this thing called summer!

I'm going out with my boyfriend to see Ghosts of Girlfriends Past tonight, and this is what I'm wearing...

So, more about what I had mentioned in the last post...I'm thinking of opening up my own thrift store. The only thing is - I'm dirt poor so I will have to take out a loan from the bank to be able to start things off. This is kind of a scary and daunting aspect of things because I am only 19, am still attending college, and need a steady flow of income to fund my education. But I really want to do it.

I checked out some books from the library and also went looking at places that are for rent. There was one place that's about $750 a month, but the placement of it isn't that good. Then there are others that are in better places but cost more in rent, so here's the question: will I make enough in the better spot to cover the extra cost?

I am very nervous but also excited at this prospect. I was also thinking about names for the shop and thought about naming it The Fabulosity Factor, like the title of this blog. Thoughts? Other ideas? Words of wisdom? Please, share!

hey there

So...I've been thinking...how about I start my own thrift store? Seriously.

Sorry, no outfit pictures, I had to run out the door quickly before work so I could get to the library...

Well, I had a horrible day at work. I hate it when people do not think outside the box and are critical of those who do because they are just jealous. Ahhh!!! I was so mad I wanted to scream and just leave, but it was sooo hard to get this job that I'm scared I won't be able to find another soon.

Anyhoo, this is what I donned before going out...

This is another groovy headband from Forever 21 and the rest (save the jeans) are all things that have been thrifted.

I really like these '80's retro shoes...they are kind of a murky gray color with a wicked cool diagonal zipper detailing that goes across the toe...very cool and unique!

And so...thank you all for being wonderful, creative, outside-the-box thinking, and just generally awesome - you've got it.

orange sherbet

Look! I organized my extra books (that don't fit onto a bookcase) into color-coded stacks! Yay - except now I can't reach the last shelf of my two bookcases (yeah, I have a lot of books), but oh well...at least it looks sweeter now.

This is what I wore to work today...

I got this hat at an antique store for $9, and it's actually more of a light orange color than it looks in the pictures. Below there's a close up picture of the hat and of the awesome-ly massive earrings I wore with it.

I am very into accessories lately, especially hats, jewelry, belts, and purses (wait, that's like all of them...well, I guess I'm especially into all accessories lately). Accessories are the things that top off the outfit, or to finish it when it's not quite complete. They also might add an unexpected flair or pop of color, or change the style of the outfit altogether.

However, I never like to overdo it on anything when it comes to fashion, I want to look effortless and not like I try too hard, you know what I mean (sometimes you have to try very very hard to look effortless, I'm finding out)?
