pearly girly

Soooooo immensely glad that this week is through. Crummy exams, papers, blah blah blah. Here is what I wore to uni today;
  • cream sketch tee
  • cropped jacket with beaded accents
  • straight leg jeans
  • velvet french heels
I loooove this cute little jacket! I found it at work for $5, and I can tell that someone cropped it themselves and added the beading, too! Way to improve it, but sad that you would then donate it. But, good for me who got it for a song!

I hope you all are getting your weekends off to a great start!

twenty seven

I have two more exams tomorrow, so I spent most of the day before work studying...absolutely craving the weekend. Here is what I wore to work:
  • rugby polo
  • straight leg jeans
  • tennis shoes
First of all, I know the lipstick doesn't go at all, but I got two new colors today and was testing them out before I got dressed. Then I took the pics and forgot that I had it on, so...yeah.

I didn't buy this shirt for myself, and probably wouldn't ever have bought it in the first place. That is the nice thing about getting gifts from other people, you never know about what you wouldn't have even considered in the first place. I really like the outfit it creates. I love how these pants make my legs look so long!

I guess that is my advice for the day...not about how dark wash jeans make your legs look longer...but that you shouldn't be afraid to wear something you would have never ever ever even really never know how it will end up until you try it.

st. vinnies

As most of my readers know already, I have recently been hired to work in a thrift store. I absolutely love it and actually look forward to going to work every night. Yesterday I took some pictures to post and explain a bit about, so here it goes...

This is "the back." This is where all the donations go and where we sort clothes. The blue bins are what we sort the clothes out of and into - the good clothes come out and go into piles to be priced and put on hangers while the bad clothes go back into a bin.

In back there are huge boxes with all the belts, purses, hats, backpacks, and shoes that are waiting to be sorted. Here are the boxes of belts and purses.

Here is a shot out over some of the womens department. There is also a mens department, a home decor department, a sporting goods department, entertainment department, and a jewelry counter. It's pretty extensive. People donate all kinds of things...some that you would never want to know about (ahem...dildos). But we don't put things like that out, just to make that clear.

Hopefully tomorrow I will have some outfits worthy of posting, but until then - love to everyone!

inspiration squared

Studied, slept, and then went to work. It's so different actually looking forward to going to work instead of dreading it. I don't have an outfit post of mine today, but I do have one.

I saw a beautiful girl with the most amazing outfit at work today and I'm so glad I had my camera with me so I could take her picture.

I absolutely love the combination of her coat, scarf, and hat. The hat has to be the best part of the outfit. She had wonderful shiny long hair that looked fantastic underneath such a great hat. I have to admit, I am a tad jealous - this girl has way more style than I'll ever have!

I am sorry for the completely pointless and boring and uninspired posts (or lack thereof) lately, but that is what my life feels like right now. Here is what I wore to school today:
  • volleyball long sleeve tee
  • bell bottom jeans
My extras were:
  • charcoal scarf
  • woven belt
I actually wore my knockoff cardy Uggs today, and not my slippers as the pictures says. I am just sick of having those ugly boots in my pictures. They actually might have gone with this outfit today, though.

I am just starting to realize that you can really tell my mood from my outfits. Scary.

breaking legs

Hey-o! This is kind of a dull post - the one when you got dressed in the morning freezing to death and wishing that you could be back in your warm and cozy bed...with that frame of mind, the only thing that mattered this morning was comfort. Actually, I did put on jeans, and I probably have you lovely readers to thank for that. Not that I would have gone out half nuddy, I mean that I probably would have worn sweats...

Anyways, here is what I wore to uni and work today:
  • straight leg jeans
  • "Players" hoodie
  • cardy boots
My extras were the white framed sunnies.

This hoodie was to commemorate my four years as a drama student at my high school. I really miss theatre and wish I could do it in college, but that would just be too much of a work load, especially because I'm not any good and wouldn't get into shows anyway, and because I am not pursuing a career in theatre. Yes, we've been breaking legs since you can see.

cat in the hat

Hellooooooo lovelies! I was a tad more inspired today and here's the outfit to prove it:
  • Beatles tee
  • black vest
  • vintage jeans
  • slip on sneakers
My extras were:
  • black fedora
  • wide belt
  • aviator sunglasses
This hat I "borrowed" from my bro before I left. It is completely awesome except for the fact that it leaves the worst hat hair I've ever seen. I just didn't take it off.

belated took me seriously soooo long to pick out an outfit for today. And then when I took the pictures I decided that I looked like a complete ninny. More than usual, that is. That is why there is no outfit post for today. Instead, here is a set I created with Valentine's Day in mind. Speaking of Valentine's...will you be mine?

Hopefully my fashion inspiration will be up to par tomorrow when I have to get ready for work...

blithe and bonny

Did homework all day until I had to go to work. That is actually a lie. I did math for about twenty minutes before I decided I was bored and then watched Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing - an amazing movie that makes me long for summer, Italy, and my love.

This is what I wore to work:
  • Hard Rock tee
  • straight leg jeans
  • cardy boots
My extra was my brown braided belt.

Abhorring the thought of going to uni tomorrow. There's supposed to be a winter storm warning tonight, though, so maybe my classes will be can only hope. Well, I can only hope, I suppose.

"it's called a lance...hello..."

Happy Monday all! The worst day of the week, but now almost will never again have a Monday February 15 of 2009. Kind of sad in a way, but it is a Monday. Sorry - I am in this rambling state of mind on account of the fact that I have been sleepwalking ever since I got up this morning. It might have something to do with the amazingly high and unbelievable amount of sugar I had over the weekend (1 entire can of frosting, 20 bazillion coconut doughnut holes, 26 Hershey Kisses...and that is not even half of it...I blame this on my boyfriend for being so far away on Valentine's day and making me replace his presence with sugar...he doesn't seem to buy this explanation, though).

The word you're looking for is...anyways...

This was my outfit of choice on this freezing day of classes:
  • ribbed turtleneck
  • silver tunic
  • skinny jeans
  • cardy boots
My extras were:
  • head scarf
  • navy skinny belt
  • black woven belt
  • oversize sunnies
I really hate the way these knockoff Uggs look (all Uggs, for that matter) - kind of like a hoof...but on these frigid days they do keep my feet warm. And isn't it the worst feeling to have cold feet that won't warm up all day? Besides the wearing new shoes and having a blister fifteen minutes into the night. Stop rambling! Sorry!

I love this tunic. I call it my "chain mail." I thought it went nicely with my head scarf "coif." Now just give me my damn lance and I'll be off. Speaking of is a treat for all of you - the Golden Years dancing scene from A Knight's Tale. Great song and great dancing. Plus a cute page pretending to be a knight and trying to win fair lady. Just good all around.

Ooo - I forgot how cool Jocelyn's makeup was for this scene! Enjoy!

more red

This is what I wore to work today:
  • beige tee
  • red cardigan
  • straight leg jeans
  • plaid converse
My extras were:
  • charcoal scarf
  • woven belt
  • Valentine pins
Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday. I like it that we celebrate a day devoted to love. Every day should be Valentine's Day. Love for everyone.

valentine's eve

Got home from work today and what did I have to do? Shovel my driveway. That's right. It's snowing. It is so beautiful and perfect, but I want spring. This is what I wore to classes and work today:
  • black turtleneck
  • light blue jeans
  • vintage red blazer
  • gray logo Converse
My extras were my awesome purple-framed sunnies.

Don't you love this blazer? I love the navy edging and the wolves that are on the buttons.

Yay! I got tagged by the sweet Connie Hsiu of Meet Me Bye The Water to tell Six Things That Make Me Happy. Here we go...
  • I love the first snow of the year - it is one of my favorite days of the year. I like sitting by a window in warm comfy clothes and drinking hot chocolate.
  • It makes me happy when my kitty-cat, Stella, comes and curls up with me at night. Even though she wakes me up and steals the covers in the winter, I feel loved and then have my own little personal furnace.
  • I hardly ever get letters, except for on my birthday, and then they're only cards. However, every day I run excitedly out to the mailbox in hopes that I'll have something. I especially like getting love letters, they're so romantic and old fashioned. I have magazines subscriptions, too, and I also love the days that they come in the mail.
  • I love reading such a good book that I want to stay in bed all day and finish it. Those are rare and I love lazy days spent just reading hour after hour. Or the feeling you have when you're in the middle of a really good book but can't finish it because you have school, work, wherever, and all you can think about is coming home to finish it.
  • I especially like it when my boyfriend puts his hands on my neck when he kisses me. Those of you who know - you know.
  • It makes me happy when a song I know comes on the radio when I'm driving. I drum on the steering wheel and sing my heart out. People stare...that's the best part.

Spent pretty much the whole day writing my paper on what is natural law? A load of crap, that's what it is. And I'm not even done! Gaaaaaa! Then I went to work wearing this:
  • black turtleneck
  • my boyfriend's jeans
  • black and white slip on sneakers
My extras were:
  • peace sign suspenders
There's my new trench coat! Aren't those kick-ass suspenders?!

Tomorrow I have my first math exam - ewww. But hopefully everything will be smooth sailing...

I really love my new job! Even though it's constant putting away and organizing racks and racks of clothes because we're constantly getting new donations, it's great. The people I work with are fun and a bit crazy, so I fit in swimmingly. So far I've mostly been out on the sales floor putting away and organizing, but today I got to go to the back rooms and sort and price things. There are these huge bins of clothes that we have to sort. Things that are too faded, worn, stained or frayed we don't keep and put in the baler to make bales to sell. Then the clothes we do keep are sorted and then priced, hung, and put out on the floor. This is a constant process, as I mentioned before, so there is never a down moment.

After the tease of 60 degrees (f) yesterday, it's back to rainy and cold. Blah. So this is what I wore to classes today:
  • white turtleneck
  • straight leg jeans
  • plaid Converse
  • swing trench coat
My extras were:
  • wide belt
  • scarf
After uni I toddled myself off to my second day at work. Kind of remembered everything they taught me... But you have to see what I scored!

This classic olive trench from London Fog - $6.00

And...(drum roll please)... red Burberry trench - $11.00
Um, ohmygod!! (Sorry the pic is a bit will look better in an outfit post.)

Both fit beautifully. Love love love them. Can't wait for more rainy and gray weather.

mad plaid

Today was my first day working at the thrift store! It was fun, but really tiring as you have to be doing something every second or else you're fired (pretty much). I saw some great clothes (red Burberry trench for $20) and there were also some people who bought stuff and I was like oh my gosh I want that. Like this one lady bought this dark navy jean romper that was totally cute and if I had seen it first... But you know.

My feet are aching now, though - why oh why did I wear flats? Anyway, here is my outfit for today:
  • Marilyn tee
  • plaid flannel shirt
  • vintage leather jacket
  • straight leg jeans
  • sequin flats
My extras were:
  • pink pearl strand
  • purple headband
I am dead tired and have to wake up at 5 tomorrow for uni, so, for now adios, amigos!

Monday, February 9, 2009

oh, lucy

I just watched The Beatles Yellow Submarine - the animated film from 1968 - with my bro. Seriously, such a seriously groovy movie. Classic music and good everything - hilarious as ever if you get the subtle references in it. The art is fantastic as well - a feast for the eyes.

Here is Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds which has the most amazing kaleidoscope effects - watch the dancing ladies!

Please, do yourself a favor and see this movie. You will not be disappointed.

Soooo busy with school work and such, but I am procrastinating at the moment. Here is what I wore to uni today:
  • gray tank
  • zip up hoodie
  • straight leg jeans
  • black socks
  • black and white slip on sneakers
My extras were:
  • brown belt
  • flower scarf
  • vintage porkpie hat
  • buttons (on sweatshirt)
Sigh. I could totally go for something completely fruity right now.

another mind...

I had a really full and fun day today! Let me fill you in...

First of all, this is what I wore:

  • white 3/4 sleeve shirt
  • vintage high-waisted pants
  • sparkle pointy
My extras were:
  • suede jacket
  • home made bird necklace
  • navy belt
First, my mom and I went to an antique show where they had really beautiful, really expensive stuff. I think I came out with the least expensive thing there - the pin that is pictured above for $3.

The expo center that the show was at was right next to an animal shelter where we adopted my dog, and my mom was like, "let's just go in and look," and then I was all, "Mom, you know we can't just look," but we went in anyway. We almost looked privately at three different dogs, but each one couldn't get adopted to a family with a cat.
That was kind of sad, but I don't want my cat eaten, either. I looked at the cats and the bunnies that we are not allowed to get because we already have a cat and my cat and my dog would eat a bunny. But they were still soooo cute to look at.

One adorable lop-eared rabbit had a sign on it that said that it was abandoned at the side of the road in a cage. Seriously, I try my hardest not to hate and put that out in the world, but it's hard when it comes to people who abandon animals and treat them badly.

I am so bad when it comes to shelters, though, one step in and I want every animal I see. I always start crying because I know some of them won't get adopted and some of them were abandoned and mistreated. People - please adopt from shelters as opposed to pet stores! Pet store animals are just as sweet and need homes, but they are more likely to get adopted and less likely to be put down if no one wants them right away.

Then, we did a bit of grocery shopping, and you know the samples they set out sometimes? Yeah, I took a toothpick from the used cup and didn't realize it until I needed to put it there. Really? Yes, I did. It was great. So besides that and not being able to take home twelve cats, bunnies, and dogs, it was a really awesome day.

red sweater

Went to the library after school to get my tax forms today...ewwwww. But doing taxes at least means tax refund, so...

This is what I wore today:
  • Madeline tee
  • vintage red cardigan
  • light blue straight leg jeans
  • white nautical flats
My extras were:
  • navy belt
  • silver necklace
This cardy was a thrift store find ($4) and is the prettiest shade of red.

So this weekend I am doing my taxes, going to an antique show with my mom, homework, clean the bathroom...blah blah...more homework... This is my last weekend before work starts! Yay and not yay at the same time. But mostly yay.

The most exciting news! They're firing someone at St. Vinnies (the thrift store) and so I get to start work sooner than March! As in next week! Seriously, the best news ever.

So today was my official hire date and I went in and filled out all the paperwork and stuff. And they gave us the super ultra cool (not) handbook of stuff - I get a 30% discount! Really, at a thrift store I was not expecting an employee discount.

This is what I wore today:
  • A Chorus Line long sleeve tee
  • gray skinny jeans
  • black leg warmers
  • black and cream houndstooth Converse
My extra was my big black and silver belt.

I am so happy to be employed again - big weight off my shoulders.

Here is a picture of the flowers my bf sent me yesterday.

p.s. i love you

Today is Bob's (my boyfriend) and my three year anniversary! It kind of sucks because he's in NY and I'm here, but he did send me flowers!

I asked Bob out after the winter dance at our school our sophomore year of high school, and he (obviously) said yes. We are still together, however, now in a long distance relationship. What can I say? He laughs when I'm mad. And that is why I love him. And, if you haven't is all you need.

To Bob:
I love you so much. Even when we fight, I could never imagine being with anyone else - ever. You bring out all that is good in me, even when you are so far away. I miss you more than anything and I can't wait until we can be together.
Love, Beck Beck

It's back to below zero temperatures in Wisconsin. So...this is what I wore to school:
  • gray long sleeve shirt
  • dark straight leg jeans
  • gray and black logo Converse
My extras were:
  • black woven belt
  • navy belt
  • black beanie
I started taking these pictures this morning and I kept looking at them and wondering...what is missing? Something is missing from this outfit. And that is when I ran into my brother's room and grabbed his black beanie. It helps complete the outfit. This is also my brothers shirt...well...was his shirt but then he grew out of it and I claimed it.

I also tried the shirt with just one belt, but that didn't seem right either, so I decided to wear two instead. I really love the look that it created!

blog love

I got my first tag today from C.B. of My Gorgeous Finds - please stop by her awesome blog!

I will be tagging

All these bloggers are so sweet and I would really really really like to see more from them!

I thought I would take this opportunity to answer some questions that have been emailed to me since I have been blogging (my email address is if anyone else would like to contact me about anything - I will always respond and send love love love back).

what is your favorite physical characteristic about yourself?
probably my chin dimple...hmmm....either that or my eyelashes

what is your guilty pleasure?
definitely reading Seventeen magazine...I have a subscription

what fashion trend do you hate?
I can't really think of a particular trend that I hate...I just hate it when people just use trends as opposed to using creativity and developing their own personal style

what is your favorite trend?
I don't have one in particular...some of the ones that I like are hippie headbands, oversize (and also reusable) bags, and I also like that tights are back in

what is one of your fashion regrets?
all through high school every day I pretty much wore jeans and a tee-shirt...and not even cute tee shirts, I wore like the ones you get when you're on a sports team or go to the Hard Rock Cafe...don't get me wrong, those outfits definitely have their place, I just wish that I hadn't worn that practically every day and had tried to be more creative and individual with my style

So... a big thank you to everyone who reads my blog and especially those who comment - you guys are great and you are what keep me blogging! Love all around.

This is my school outfit:
  • black ribbed turtleneck
  • blue tank
  • dark straight leg jeans
  • oriental Mary Janes
My extras were:
  • Buddha necklace
  • brown belt
Today, since it has been quite nice outside compared to lately (in the 20's (F)), I decided to wear my Mary Jane shoes without socks. I am not the brightest at times - my feet are still warming up. I got these shoes last spring in an outdoor clothing and supply store for $6. I don't know quite what they were doing there, but I was happy to find them at such a sweet price.

I love this necklace. I found it in a lonely corner at an antique store in Door County last summer for $5, and I could not pass it up. It is so big and terrible, but that makes it irresistible to me. And Buddha always reminds me to calm down. Thank you, Buddha.
