fashion against aids

I bought this amazing shirt at H&M last fall and saved it I love it - the design and the message - USE ONE ("one" being a condom in this case). It was part of H&M's Fashion Against AIDS line where 25% of the price was donated towards HIV/AIDS education and prevention.

scarf - my great-grandmother's
sunglasses - my mom's
tunic - H&M
leggings - Wet Seal
sneakers - thrifted

It was 70 degrees (f) out today! The sun was shining and it was finally warm! It was one of those days where any cooler would have been too cold and any warmer would have been hot - it was perfect.

I will study protein synthesis

Well I'm back in the swing of things at school (exam tomorrow, too!), but I guess it never really felt like break...just a whole bunch of craziness, but some fun, too, I guess.

This is what I wore to work today - it's getting nicer again...will it stay that way this time? No one can tell.

These amazing $5 pants from H&M I love wearing with anything red, like these flats. I went for pairing the leopard print with the snakeskin print on the belt, and I really like the result (it's hard to see in the picture, sorry!). And this university shirt from my dear friend in England is so casual chic...worn with the sleeves rolled halfway up...something I learned to do in high school that makes simple tees a bit more awesome.

Well, tomorrow I have my exam on human and primate classification and taxonomy...and how DNA makes protein! Yay protein!

I modify a dress

This might be my new favorite dress. I found it several months ago whilst thrifting with my friend. I loved the style, and even though I was trying really hard to save money, I bought it. Then I got it home and tried it on again. I immediately had buyer's remorse because of the length. It was two inches past the knee and looked very matronly. I pouted and hung it in my closet. Today I brought it out and knew exactly what to do. Since the only things I can sew are flat and straight, I figured I could just pin it the way I wanted it (I saw another girl do this on her blog a while back...I'm sorry that I can't remember who it was and credit them, but thanks for the amazing idea!). This is the result.

I am totally regretting not wearing brown tights at all this past fall and winter. I took these out of the package today and love how they look. They are less harsh than black would be and are more fit for a pre-spring weather day (don't let the sunshine fool was chilly!).

This is the ring I was wearing. I love peacock feather motifs in fashion and design, not only because it is beautiful, but because it's naturally occurring in nature. Nature is my favorite place to look for inspiration. If I were an animal, I think I'd be a peacock...

I have some bridesmaid duties tonight with the bride, so yay! And then, thrifting tomorrow for decorations and dresses - it'll be fun!

I'm picking up good vibrations

Today I made French onion soup. I turned out good, but not at all like it tastes in the restaurant. I have to figure out how to get the bread and the cheese just perfect. This week I am also planning on making a potato-onion, I'll let you know how it turns out.

This is what I wore to grocery shop and work today. I'm so glad that this blazer has more or less abandoned that old nasty smoke smell that it had when I first got it in the fall (bag sale - $.76!). I love that it has no collar, and the detailing around the button is just beautiful. I thought it was a good day to bring out my daisy pin, too.

I am so looking forward to spring! I got my bike out for the first time this year and had a little ride around the neighborhood. It was gorgeous.

I'm also excited to announce that I will be hosting my very first blog giveaway soon, so stay tuned!

Also, if you would like to exchange links with me, please leave your url in the comment section and I will link you right away!

the likes o' me likes the likes o' you

Well, the snow has disappeared again, hopefully for good until next November!

Since so many of you liked my shoes in the last post, I decided to wear them again and include a close up shot. They really are beautiful - red velvet with a big bow on the toes.

Now that I've tried knee socks, I'm hooked. I've had these in my drawer for about a year, but never thought they'd look good on me. I am loving the look with wedges.

So I ventured out to soak up some Vitamin D and take pictures in the sunshine. What a gorgeous day!

So I've been put in charge of coordinating the bridesmaid dresses and helping pick them for my friend's wedding and I'm so excited! It will be amazing having each girl with her own unique look, not a cookie cutter style from a catalog.

Have a beautiful start to the week!

there is snow...again

Yes, there is snow on the ground...again. Are you kidding me? Oh well...that's Wisconsin for you. I went to work today and then I went to a WDO (Wisconsin Deaf Organization) event for my sign language class. I had such a fun time, even though I couldn't say much, and I even won a door prize - green hand soap, in honor of St. Patrick's Day. (Oh, before the event, I did throw on a green Celtic print scarf so I'd be a bit more festive...)

Look at that snow. Now what are we going to do about that?

I'm free as a bird

It was a lovely day today...and now it's snowing. Really? Really. This is what I wore to work today. This skirt was in the pile of 'spring clothes' that I brought up out of the basement today, and for this outfit I fashioned it into more of a dress.

I really love the cardigan and clutch colors together...I swear this clutch goes with anything! These shoes I got a couple years ago at Charlotte Russe for $5. I think this is the first time I've worn them.

One of my favorite purchases ever. My bird ring. I am becoming more and more fascinated with accessories now that I am more conscious of them in my everyday wardrobe.

next time won't you sing with me?

Today was a beautiful day, however that equaled it being hotter than Hades at work. That's ok though...I survived. I ended up taking off this beautiful Missoni vest (that is the cool) in an effort to remain sweat-free, but at least it got in the pictures.

I also am wearing my skirt inside-out because I didn't want the gold zippers showing. I love the inside seams and how they look, but when I took my vest off then my skirt tags were hanging out for the world to see. Ah, such is life.

I also have some exiting news...I am going to be a bridesmaid! I am so excited you have no idea. We (the bridesmaids) really want official BM badges or something equally cool. We are so pumped to help out the beautiful bride and be involved in all the pretty things and people.

I have a really hard test in my Native American class tomorrow...but then I'm on spring break! Hooray!

in which there is a makeover

Hopefully you've noticed a few changes around this blog in the past day or so. I got to thinking - I've been blogging for over a year and I think it's time for a change. Please let me know what you think of the new color scheme, header, layout, ect.

So, this is what I wore a few days back when my boyfriend and I had delicious sushi for lunch. This is one of my recently acquired vintage umbrellas. It's gorgeously weathered, and it has a few tears in the stitching, but I love it. The color and shape are lovely.

I am also wearing my trusty black trench and wellies (wellies+puddles=sooooo much fun!).

These pretty pictures were taken by my boyfriend (who has since flitted back to NY until the summer...) - thank you!

Well, I'm off to bed to rest up for my day of studying ahead!

her diamond watch had stopped cold dead

This is what I wore to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum yesterday. The day was beautiful and my boyfriend and I had such an amazing time.

I thrifted this pretty lace top from the Goodwill in Imlay City, Michigan last summer and decided to pair it with this gorgeous skirt I recently bought at H&M (on sale for $5).

My boyfriend's last day of break is tomorrow so I will be spending it languishing around town with him. This past week has been so much fun (and also wet and foggy...hence the lack of posts)!

I forgot some of you had asked me about Shutter Island, so here's my take: the book was better than the movie (duh, though I loved the music in the movie) - it was very interesting and well written. I liked the book for the most part, but the ending kind of disappointed me. I would recommend it to people who like vintage mysteries.

where the streets have no name

I am currently reading Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane and I cannot put it down! It is so good, and so different from anything I've read lately. I want to go see the movie when my boyfriend is here for his spring break next week, but I always like reading the books first!

I wore my black velvet dress today, channeling, in a way, the old fashioned and sinister feelings I'm getting from the book. I added my ochre tights (I wish so bad that they were not footless...but that's the only kind they had in this color), and my cute plaid flats (that I got for 75% off at Target!).

I went for brown accessories with this gorgeous ring and tortoise shell barrette.

Tomorrow is my long day - 9am to 8:30pm at school...sigh, not looking forward to it...but hopefully it will give me time to catch up on studying and the like during breaks. How exhilarating. Not.

I am excited to plant flowers this spring...I think I'm going to channel my new found love for gardening into lots and lots of gorgeous floral prints and motifs...(and, well, gardening, obviously).

when you worry you make it double

This is what I wore today, the first of March. It's not too exciting, but I love it because this is my grandpa's tie.

I hardly ever buy anything full price, but I saw this ring and fell in love with it...and bought it, obviously.

I found this bracelet when shopping for a TWIRP dress with my mom my senior year. On sale, of course. I call it my Rubix Cube bracelet.

I'm back in the thick of things now...tests, papers, work (as always). Nothing unusual, except I accidentally swallowed my gum today...haha, woops.

I would say I love you but you already know that I love you more than that. Ha.
