DIY salty foot scrub

This summer I have been spending most of my days on my feet working, so when I had the luxury of a three day weekend, I decided to show my tootsies some major love.  Here is a simple foot (or hand) scrub that can be whipped up in a matter of minutes.

Supplies: 1 cup salt, 1/2 cup of your favorite oil or oils (for this recipe I used a mixture of olive oil and almond oil).  You will also need a clean container to store your scrub and a utensil for mixing.'s really as easy as mixing these ingredients together.  (I used fine sea salt that started out with a slightly pinkish tinge and then when I added the olive oil, it turned this brownish color.)  I also added a drop of lemongrass essential oil and five drops of sage essential oil (my favorite mixture of scents lately) to my concoction.

To use, just slather onto feet or hands, massaging into your skin.  Pay extra attention to the dry areas such as heels and calluses.  Rinse with cool water and pat dry.  Cover your feet with warm socks and when you remove them you will have the softest feet ever.

I will be the sun, I will wake you up

Here is the result of my latest dress makeover...if you could even call it that, I mean all I did was chop a ton off the bottom and look how cute it turned out!  I think we can all agree that my $3 was well spent.  (I mean, it has pockets!!! Of course it was worth it!)  I didn't realize when I bought the dress how utterly ginormous the arm holes were...but a pretty bralette made it a non issue on this hot summer day.  This will make it easier to layer over turtlenecks (in true '90's fashion) and possibly even sweaters once the weather cools down.

DIY thrifted dress makeover - denim jumper

Remember when I posted this dress makeover?  Well, this is basically the same thing.  I found this adorable jumper at a thrift store for a mere $3.  I took it home, figuring that a girl can never have too many denim dresses, and a few snips later, it had a completely new look.  No sewing, only cutting...the fraying edges that will come with more wear are just fine with me.  A full outfit post is coming soon...

I thought I knew how to dance in the rain

This morning was damp and dreary...nothing that couldn't be brightened up by some beautiful red wellies.  Red wellies, or I guess just wellies in general, will always (always) remind me of Ramona Quimby in Ramona the Pest where she, in her new red rain boots, gets stuck in wet cement.  This is perhaps my favorite literary scene of all time.

we were fools to think that nothing could go wrong

As much as I don't want to admit it quite yet, fall is creeping up on us.  There are some trees that are already beginning to turn and today when I ventured up to Gills Rock (the tip top of the peninsula), I elected to wear socks and bring, just in case, a sweater (my favorite one...and I didn't realize until I was halfway through the day that the button was still on it...a friend found that for me at an antique store and I love it!).  The dress I'm wearing is actually this dress turned inside out...I love how the color is muted but the pretty pattern is still visible.

these days I'm left to howl a tune

This dress is probably one of my favorite thrift finds (although, as I'm typing this I realize that I say this about a lot of my thrifted clothes).  The print is lovely and the shape is classic - I adore the neckline, the sleeve length, the nipped in waist...even the longer length doesn't bother me when all the other elements are so perfect.

These amazing storm clouds were forming as I was driving home from work.  I couldn't wait to change and capture them in these blog photos.  The whole time I was out there the storm was looming and broke just as I returned home.  Mother nature is amazing.

we wished upon parallel lines

Though I wouldn't normally pair such a short skirt with a cropped top, I do love this outfit.  It's wonderful for summer afternoon strolls spent picking wildflowers and wishing...

back for more

Hello!  Bet you thought you might not see me around again, but here I am...back for more.  I have been working like a mad woman, but on those rare occasions when I'm not working or sleeping, I can be found in outfits like this one - easy and cool for these hot summer days.  This dress used to be my mom's, and I love the playful summery colors and the nice deep pockets.  Also, these boots have been my go to footwear most days...the little heel just adds a little extra something without killing my feet.
