girl reading

I want to get in the habit of taking more self-portraits. I appreciate that they can be focused not so much around an outfit, but rather capture a moment and an act, and perhaps more personality than would be conveyed through photos for an outfit's sake. This also helps me stretch my creative muscles and turn something simple, like the act of reading, into something artistic and personal. My hands-down favorite past time is reading, so this idea for a personal self-portrait shoot was pretty much a no-brainer. The featured book is the one I'm currently reading - Gone With the Wind. I've been suuuuuper inspired by Gibson Girl hairstyles lately, and this is my hand at creating a Gibson-esque style. (I actually didn't plan it for these pictures specifically, I was practicing hairstyles in the mirror earlier in the day and this was what I was rocking when the time came later for photos. Worked out pretty well, I think!) I'm wearing an Oscar de la Renta robe that I rescued from a thrift store rack.

These are so pretty and artistic! I would also like to take more self portraits, but I need to learn to be less critical of myself in photos first because I just end up deleting them!

Okay, so I think you are really nailing down the Gibson Girl hair. Lovely photos.

I find it really difficult to do self-portraits. Especially without a tripod. But your pictures are really inspiring, with the focus on a moment.
