stranded

This insanely gorgeous beaded and fringed leather vest was part of a two piece ensemble my Godmother bought back in the 70's. She says it was the first thing she purchased with the first paycheck she ever received. Needless to say, it is one of my most treasured items of clothing, not only because it is beautiful, but because there's a sweet story attached to it.

van life // driver's seat

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but I just cannot wait to take my van on the road again. I'm longing for deserts, oceans, and everything in between. And, just living in the van is fun! I could honestly travel living out of the van indefinitely if it wasn't for the fact that I'd miss my cats so much, haha.

I'm always looking to spruce up the interior decor, and I think before my next trips my goal is to try and hunt down a tapestry or two to hang on the ceiling/walls, I think that'll be a fairly easy way to take the interior from mostly drab to fab with only a few (big) staples. I also want to put some hooks up to hold things like spare keys, jewelry, and sunglasses, so they don't get lost all the time.

My van, Trixy, is actually the one thing in my life right now that is not a mess. And I'm proud of that. The fact that she's so clean, that is. I've tried so hard to keep her tidy since I deep cleaned her earlier this year, and it's been great! It's so nice to just be able to decide to take off for the night, or to take in a drive in movie and not have to worry about moving stuff in and out, or much cleaning. Little trips have been the best so far this year!

van life // the little things

Well. the weather's been absolutely GORGEOUS lately, and that's just got me dreaming about road trips all day long. I thought I'd share some details from inside my travelin' van today, as I've been working to keep her clean and, well, 'cause I think she's so darn awesome. A few wonderful trips are being planned for this coming fall/winter season and I couldn't be more excited! The next step is getting some work done on her (brakes, exhaust, tires, ect.), but I'm expecting to have her up and running in plenty of time to be road trip ready.

Check out my video on road trip tricks here and the correlating post here!
// Pretty shells from my visit to the Gulf of Mexico a while back. Also, TAPE DECK.
//I thrifted the comforter that's thrown over the back bench. It's king sized, so it is perfect for snuggling under on chilly nights. I also thrifted these awesome pillows (I especially love the longhorn skull one!).
// My van is a '91, so it has a tape deck. I have a converter that I can plug my phone into, but it's also kinda novel to have some tapes handy. I found these at a thrift store in Mississipi.
// Another thrifted blanket (yay!), a great hat, and a good book.
// This is where small little odds and ends wind up. There's some tickets from the drive-in theater, Elvis matches from Memphis, and more shells. Also, when I bought the van I was confused as to what exactly these weird spaces were near the cup holders, but I'm pretty sure now that they're for tape cases. They're also great for holding my phone!
// Crates like this are perfect for storage. I have a couple in here, and I used them to organize blankets, towels, shoes, and hygiene odds and ends.
// Thrifted curtains I hung between the cab and the back seats. I keep a bouquet of dried eucalyptus on the dash. When the sun shines on it or the vent is blowing it makes the whole place smell pretty!
// Cup holder things. A shell from the beach, a key chain from Graceland, and spare change for tolls.
// The passenger is always in charge of the camera!
// Comfy shoes, always. Also, thrifted rugs help keep the floor of the van clean. They're easy to shake off outside, and they help make the space cozy!
